A Boy’s Little Lunch
A boy shares his small lunch, and Jesus turns it into more than enough food for a whole hillside of hungry people.
Up a grassy green hill, a huge crowd followed Jesus to hear Him teach. There were so many people that they covered the hillside like flowers. They sat close together, listening to His every word. The sun slipped lower and lower, and soon it was getting late.
Tummies began to rumble all across the hill, for the people were hungry and tired. But no one had food to share with such a big, big crowd. Jesus’ friend Philip shook his head and said that even a whole bag of coins could not buy enough bread.
Then Andrew, one of Jesus’ friends, found a little boy with his lunch held tight in his hands. The boy had only five small barley loaves and two little fish. It was not very much at all. But the boy smiled and gladly shared his whole lunch with Jesus.
Jesus took the little loaves and the little fish into His gentle hands. He looked up to heaven and said, “Thank You” to God. Then, piece by piece, He began to share the bread and the fish. The food kept coming and coming, more than anyone could count.
The friends passed it out, and everyone ate until they were full and happy. Children licked their fingers, and grown-ups smiled and patted their tummies. And when they finished, there was still food left over — twelve whole baskets full! The boy’s little lunch had fed more than five thousand people.
Jesus showed that when we give Him our little, He can do something wonderfully big. A small lunch in His hands became a feast for everyone. So whatever little we have, we can share it with a happy heart. God always has more than enough love and care for us.
Thank You, God, that even my small things become big in Your kind hands. Please help me to share with a happy, joyful heart.
