David and Goliath
A brave young shepherd named David trusts God to face Goliath, a giant no one else dared to fight.
On a hill across the valley stood a giant soldier named Goliath, who came from the town of Gath. He was taller than anyone, and his armor clinked and shone in the sun. Every single day he stomped out and shouted loud, daring God’s people to fight him. His voice boomed like thunder, and all the soldiers shook with fear and stayed quiet.
A young shepherd boy named David came down the dusty path, carrying bread for his big brothers. When he reached the camp, he heard the giant roaring across the valley. The soldiers looked scared, but David’s heart felt calm and strong. “I am not afraid,” he said softly, “because God is with me.”
King Saul heard about the brave boy and let David try. The king gave David a heavy helmet and armor, but it was much too big and clunky. So David set it all down and chose what he knew best. He picked up his shepherd’s sling and gathered five smooth, cool stones from the bubbling stream.
Step by step, David walked toward the giant across the wide valley. Goliath laughed at the small boy, but David was not afraid. “You come with a sword,” David called out clearly, “but I come in the name of God.” In his heart, he trusted God to help him.
David reached into his pouch and placed one smooth stone in his sling. Around and around it swung, faster and faster, and then he let it fly. Goliath fell down to the ground, and God gave David the victory. The people cheered and danced, safe and happy at last.
From that day on, David always remembered that the win came from God, not from himself. He knew he had been little and the giant had been huge, yet God had been bigger than them both. And so it is for you, too: even small people can do big things when they trust the One who loves them.
Dear God, thank You for being with me, even when something feels too big. Help me to be brave because You are always near, holding me close.
