Jesus Calms the Storm
Jesus and His friends sail across the Sea of Galilee, and Jesus shows that even the wind and the waves listen to Him. It is a story about bringing our fears to Jesus and trusting that He is near.
One quiet evening, the sky turned soft and golden over the water. Jesus and His friends climbed into a little wooden boat to cross the big lake called the Sea of Galilee. Jesus had been teaching all day long, and He was so tired. He found a cozy spot at the back of the boat, rested His head on a cushion, and fell fast asleep.
While Jesus slept, a strong wind began to blow across the lake. The sky grew dark, and the waves grew big and tall. Splash! Splash! Cold water tumbled into the boat. The water rose higher and higher, and Jesus’ friends held on tight, feeling very afraid.
“Wake up! Wake up!” His friends called. They gently shook Him. “Teacher,” they said, “don’t you care that we might sink?” Slowly Jesus opened His eyes. He stood up in the boat as it rocked and tipped on the wild water.
Jesus looked out at the howling wind and the splashing waves. In a strong, kind voice He said, “Peace. Be still.” And right away the wind stopped blowing. The big waves grew quiet and small, and the whole lake became as smooth as glass. Everything was calm.
Jesus’ friends looked at the still water with wide, wondering eyes. “Even the wind and the waves listen to Him!” they whispered to each other. Their hearts felt warm and safe again. They learned that they could bring their fears to Jesus and trust His care.
Thank You, Jesus, that You are bigger than every storm. Please help me feel safe and calm when I am afraid, because You are always near.
