The First Garden
God planted the most beautiful garden of all and gave it to the very first people to enjoy and to care for. Come and see how it began.
Long ago, God planted a wonderful garden, and He called it Eden. Tall trees stretched up to the sky, and the grass was soft and green under your feet. Sweet fruit hung low, ready and good to eat. A cool river bubbled and splashed right through the middle, giving every plant a drink. It was the most beautiful place there had ever been.
God had made the very first man before placing him in the garden. He shaped him from the dust of the ground with gentle, loving hands, and He breathed soft, warm life into him. The man opened his eyes and began to breathe and move. His name was Adam, and God loved him very, very much.
God brought all the animals to Adam, one by one. The big ones and the small ones, the furry ones and the feathered ones, all came close to see him. Adam looked at each animal and gave it its very own name. But even with all the animals, God knew Adam needed a special friend who was just like him.
So while Adam was fast asleep, God gently took one of his ribs and made the first woman. She was Adam’s helper and his wife, his dearest friend, the woman we know as Eve. Now Adam was not alone anymore. The two of them could laugh and walk and share the whole garden together. What a happy gift from God!
God smiled and asked Adam and Eve to take good care of the garden and everything in it. They could tend the soft plants and watch over the gentle animals. It was a peaceful, happy place, filled all around with God’s good gifts. Every day felt warm and kind.
God gave the first people a good home and work to share. Adam and his wife could enjoy the garden and care for it together. They had food to eat, animals to know, and each other to love. The garden reminds us that God’s world is a gift to enjoy and look after.
Thank You, God, for the trees and the animals and the people I love. Help me to take good care of Your beautiful world.
