The Wise Men’s Star

Wise men follow a bright new star across the night sky, all the way to the little child Jesus, the King God promised long ago.

Far away in the East, wise men loved to watch the quiet night sky. One special night, they looked up and saw a bright new star they had never seen before. It shone with a soft, golden light over the hills. “A special King has been born!” they whispered to each other. So they packed their bags and began a long, long journey to find him.

The wise men traveled a long way to Jerusalem to find the newborn King. They asked where He was, and the teachers of God’s word remembered His promise: the King would be born in Bethlehem. After the wise men left King Herod, they saw the star go ahead of them toward the child. They were filled with joy.

At last the star stopped and rested over the place where the child was. The wise men looked up, and their hearts filled with happy, glad joy. Quietly they stepped inside the house. There they saw young Jesus with Mary, His mother, and they knew their long journey was over.

Softly they knelt down on the ground and worshiped Him. Then, with careful hands, they opened their treasure bags. Out came their best and most special gifts for the little King: shining gold, and sweet-smelling frankincense and myrrh. They gave them gladly, with love.

The wise men were so happy they had found the King that God had promised long ago. Then God warned them in a dream to take a different road, so they traveled all the way back home another way, their hearts full of joy. They knew that little Jesus had come to bring God’s warm, gentle love to the whole wide world.

Thank You, God, for sending Jesus and for the bright star that led the wise men all the way to Him. Help me follow You with joy too.
