Through the Red Sea

When God’s people need a way out, God opens a path right through the sea. Come and see what God can do!

God’s people were finally free, and their hearts felt light and glad. Together they walked toward a brand-new home, their feet kicking up little clouds of warm dust. God Himself led the way — a tall pillar of cloud by day and glowing fire by night — and Moses and all the people followed close behind. It felt good to walk in the sunshine, free at last.

Then they came to the big, wide Red Sea. The water stretched on and on, sparkling far away to the edge of the sky. There was deep water in front of them — and behind them, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had changed his mind and was chasing after them with his army and all his chariots! Now the people had the sea ahead and the soldiers behind. “What will we do?” they wondered, holding each other close.

“Do not be afraid,” Moses told them gently. “Be still, and watch what God will do.” Slowly, Moses lifted his staff high over the water. Everyone grew quiet and waited, their eyes wide. Something wonderful was about to happen.

All through the dark night, God sent a strong east wind, rushing over the sea. It blew and blew across the waves with a mighty whoosh. Then the waters opened wide, and a dry path appeared right in the middle of the sea! The people gasped at the amazing thing God had made.

One by one, God’s people walked across on the dry, firm ground. Their feet stayed safe and dry the whole way. The water stood up tall like shining walls on each side. They walked carefully, knowing God was keeping them safe.

At last everyone was safe on the other side. They looked back at the wide sea and hugged one another tight. Then Moses’ sister Miriam picked up her tambourine, and all the women followed her, singing and dancing for joy. “Sing to the Lord, for He has done a wonderful thing!” they cheered, thanking God for taking such good care of them. God loved His people, and He had made a way.

Thank You, God, that You can make a way when there seems to be no way. Please stay close and help me when I am afraid.
